The Snapchat Fiasco

Entry date:16th April 2017
India is poor. India is corrupt. India has high amounts of rape and an extremely wrong manner of dealing with it. India is filled with idiots (highly likely I'm one). India is dirty with litter everywhere. India has water scarcity problems. India has freedom of speech problems. India doesn't take care of its farmers. And India is filled with fragile vulnerable people that get triggered by the truth.
And now deleting Snapchat for patriotism..*sigh*
Now before you get your "knickers in a twist", I'll state this. I'm NOT an anti-national. I'm NOT a 'desh drohi' or someone who goes around bashing his own country, and goes on to suck up to some "white country".
From what I have stated, you could probably come up with hundred of qualities that India possesses, among others. I acknowledge them. I appreciate them. Oh heck, I'm proud of it.
But that does NOT mean we get don't  triggered when someone says the truth.
Everyday I'm walking around, see our fellow countrymen bashing ourselves for our faults. Also, please don't start with "HEY WE WERE RICH UNTIL THE STUPID ANGREZ BRITISHERS CAME AND STOLE OUR MONEY!". Right, they did that, it's been 70 years since they've left and we're still complaining, because?
But now,
" HOW DARE AN UNCULTURED AMERICAN SAY BAD THINGS ABOUT OUR COUNTRY RIGHT? "
Pfft please
I get it. We need change.
Complaining about this isn't getting us anywhere,no. As Amnesty International's motto says " It's better to light a candle than to curse the darkness"( I added this bit to sound COOL ðŸ˜Ž)
Telling how we have the Ambani's and Nadella and Pichai and Nooyi? About how we're the third largest economy? If you ever read anything, you'd know that this wealth is highly disproportionate. 80% of India's population has an annual per capita income of 2400$, which sums to less than 4000₹ per month. Most of us privileged enough to be of a 'middle class' background don't really know what's going on outside of our bubble like comfort zone .
Though what struck me the most is, there is literally ZERO evidence that he even said it. Back in 2015, an ex-employee allegedly stated that India was a poor country. Our beloved 'memepages' took the liberty of removing the 'alleged' and started inciting the public to start an all-out flame war with Snapchat (who later destroyed Snapdeal). We didn't stop to think for one second. We didn't verify this news, and went on a rampage.
So yeah, maybe his comment (if there was one) was in a bad taste. One thing is for sure, we do have problems
The first step to solving a problem is to recognize there exists one
P.S Cred for the "dynamite" first paragraph goes to Sumanth Balaji (a friend)
and Dhruv Sanjay for the meme (another great friend )
Thanks bruv(s)

  2. Just something I'd like to point out about the "angrez looting India". They did drain us of our money, no doubt. But India didn't even actually exist back then. We were just this cluster of provinces who didn't want to put away their cultural differences until we had a common 'enemy'. And even though 70 years may not exactly be enough to bring India back to its former glory... We wouldn't have been a 'rich' even if not colonised. Maybe these 200 different provinces would have had heaps of gold in their treasuries, but that does not in any way indicate that the economic condition of the residents would be much better, or that the distribution to the factors would be fair at all.

And... Why the hell are we not talking about how 'Spain' and 'India' are equally poor.?!
After the fiasco I'm just surprised that the Spanish didn't take offense when called as poor as India.

    1. The Spanish are pretty chill people I guess

What I did mean to say is that, 95% of the people use that as the one excuse for pretty much every one of India's downfalls
Not sure how it works but okay

  3. We are experts in giving excuses....not ready to accept the truth and as you don't want to come out of our comfort zone.
